Our daughter Milly makes giant leaps in many ways. But to me the most impressive remains her progress in the langage department. She is now able to understand sentences in English as well as German, which still blows me away. I know we still have a long way to go, but so far I find this incredible.
Not a language specialist myself, I am convinced that her listening patterns are still entirely based on the "sing-song" of Sal's english and my german rather than on word patterns themselves. For example, she can detect a question by the raised voice at the end of a sentence. She also spots the initial phrase "Wo ist..." or "Where is..." within a question I think.
The next weeks and months are going to be so much fun! Can't wait!
It is just a pleasure to see her growing up!
Milly and I just have another weekend to the two of us while Mummy sorts out the house in Scotland. While I went through some pictures of her the other day, I realised how much her hair has grown over the last 4 weeks. She is becoming a confident walker very fast and seems to be absoltely fascinated by telephones (Haju? Hajuuu?).
I definitely smelled it today. Can someone please explain this phenomenon? Because to me this is some sort of Hen-and-Egg thing - what was there first? On one hand I could say that I had the actual knowledge that today in fact was the first weekend of autumn 2004 and therefore I smelled autumn in the air. On the other, can't it be that I actually smelled autumn first and then realised that it was the first autumn weekend?
Anyway, Milly and I had a brilliant long walk outside in the early autumn air today. Our walk took us into the Edinburgh Royal Botanics, Inverleith Park and Stockbridge. A beautiful little tour and my now 1-year-and-1-week old daughter and I thorougly enjoyed it.
It's just me and Milly this weekend. Sal is away to visit her parents and is not to be found anywhere near the "Kilt Equator" until Sunday.
What might be a fright to some Dads is pure pleasure to me - well at least up to now! Milly and I had a fab day today. We had a bit of a lie-in (8:15am) and after the usual milk, greek yoghurt and toast Milly had another kip. We then had a stroll down into Stockbridge and spend a bit of time at the new little Jazz coffee place (I forgot the name). It's a tiny little place, run by an American who plays some good jazzy tunes and serves wicked cheese cake. Milly was full of beans and enjoyed having her dad all to herself. I hope tomorrow will be as good as today.
This is the second weekend I'm spending on my own with Milly and I must say that these "Daddy weekends" always are a real eye-opener to me. It makes me realise again how hard (but rewarding) the job of a full-time parent is. All of these full-time mums and dads deserve more financial recognition, I think.
